A Thousand Organizations Later, One Mission Stands Out

Gary Fretwell Brings Decades of Experience to Prescott Meals on Wheels Board

Gary Fretwell has worked with more than a thousand universities, communities, and nonprofits across the country – but says nothing has matched the impact he’s felt since joining the Prescott Meals on Wheels board.

Fretwell, who relocated to Prescott during the COVID pandemic, was introduced to the organization through a community connection who recognized his background in nonprofit consulting. He says a lifelong commitment to service, instilled by his great-grandmother, made the decision easy.

“What are you going to do to make it better?” is the question she always pushed him to ask, and it’s one he’s still asking today.

Now serving as Board President, Fretwell believes the organization is at a pivotal moment. He describes it as an “inflection point” — a choice between coasting on current success or pursuing a more ambitious transformation.

“It’s not a matter of just incrementally keeping up,” he said. “It’s a matter of transforming into the kind of organization that will truly change this community.”

Fretwell says the board and community awareness are aligned to take that next step — and he’s confident Prescott Meals on Wheels is ready to make it.
